Put together some straight forward painting instructions for a mate I'm seducing in to the game. They are really straight forward...and not perfect! However, having watched dozens of how-to videos, I had to put together a simple guide to make it easier for myself to follow. The paints I'm using as a novice are in … Continue reading Making your car look like a heap: simple painting guide
The Tangerine Dream
So, still not getting the paint sorted. Although I am getting my arse into painting wheels and hubs. Splashed in a bit of matt varnish too. Tried to scratch build an oil spreader, but it can't really be seen too well in the pic. a little frustrated once I've sealed them that there are obvious … Continue reading The Tangerine Dream
Vans and jeeps
First foray into using Halfords spray primer. I did notice the primer way heavier - so it may have obscured some details. I did some experimentation with texturing the plasticard... I'm not keen on buying parts as yet. To that end, I have tried to scratch build a oil slick maker on the van.
Red beast
So, after not knowing what to do for a while, and an afternoon of flow - here it is.
The rust brigade
The aim was to create a couple of strong yellow cars, but the yellow paint refused to go on smoothly. I have no idea what was going on. In the end I opted for rust effects to hide the issues. The former for dry brushing, the latter for the base coat. I go the hang of the dry brushing after a while, but I messed it up several times. … Continue reading The rocks are alive with the sound of silence
Arch and ramp
Added, or made, an archway - which is just big enough for a car to go through - and a ramp. Hopefully both are suitable for Gaslands and Legion.

How to waste an hour…
So the runt of the pack needed dealing with so that I could move past it. Plastic shell, looking like a movie spin-off car: ugly. Tearing it apart, I noticed I had gold! Lots of bits that if I had a sharp craft knife - I went through three - I could salvage: a roll … Continue reading How to waste an hour…
Back to black
So, I am amazed that the priming coat unifies everything and restores your faith in your initial ideas. It's also made me realise about placing bits on symmetrically as soon as it touches the glue! Now I just need some other base colours...yellow? Racing green? A nice blue?
